Which Electronic Cigarette Should You Choose?

So, you’ve decided that you want to stop smoking regular cigarettes and would like to switch to electronic cigarettes. But with the plethora of ecigs being touted on the market today, it can be difficult to choose the brand that’s right for you.

And you want to get it right first time because you don’t want to be put off ecigs for life, right? You genuinely want them to be a safer replacement for the health-destroying tobacco you are currently addicted to – and perhaps one day to be free from nicotine completely.

At The Stop Smoking College, we have seen some good preliminary results from smokers that have replaced tobacco with ecigs. Of course, some people didn’t like them and went back to smoking, however more than half of our test group are either still smoking ecigs or have stopped smoking completely six months after we ran our tests.

Our ecig testing panel (consisting of 5 regular smokers and 1 ecig smoker) have reviewed several electronic cigarettes, however we have only published our reviews of the ecigs that performed well. Our reviews are brutally honest and after writing them up and showing them to the vendors, some brands requested that we did not publish them, which we respectfully agreed to. So, you’ll only find good reviews here at the present time.

E-Cigarette Reviews, Regulations & Red Tape

Hey there,

After receiving numerous enquiries from our members about electronic cigarettes, we have decided to conduct a review of as many of the major brands as we can.

We are currently contacting manufacturers to supply us with some samples to use for testing purposes and will conduct the testing at the beginning of February with the results to follow shortly thereafter.

I must point out that electronic cigarettes are not an officially recognised smoking cessation aid and, so, in my professional capacity, I cannot recommend them to be used in such a way. They fall under the same umbrella as things like hypnotherapy, acupuncture, acupressure and laser therapy. They may be useful, but cannot be recommended.

Nevertheless, many members here have successfully stopped smoking by using e-cigarettes and so they cannot be ignored completely.

The problem is that there is a legal grey area surrounding e-cigarettes. Regulation prohibits them from being marketed as a smoking cessation aid, which is why many companies tout them as an “alternative to tobacco”.

They have undergone none of the rigorous clinical trials that prescription drugs (Zyban and Champix) and NRT (patches, gum, inhalator etc.) have been through, so they do not have an official stamp of approval.

Despite this, I believe (and this is my own personal opinion and not the opinion of The Stop Smoking College or anyone else) that they can be useful for people wanting to stop smoking. I know of numerous people (including close friends) that have successfully kicked their habit by using electronic cigarettes. And many of them found it relatively easy to stop using their e-cigarette after they had overcome their dependence on tobacco. They have none of the harmful chemicals that tobacco contains (just a mixture of nicotine and water), so in my non-professional view they are a healthier than regular cigarettes.

But, because they are unregulated, I have to include the disclaimer that they are not a smoking cessation aid. Simply an alternative to smoking tobacco.

So this should be at the forefront of any smoker’s mind before they opt to use electronic cigarettes.

Dan
